Cortisone Injections

Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory that should reduce the swelling of edematous injured neural tissue; therefore perhaps promote healing and reduce pain.

Back or Neck
An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is the delivery of cortisone directly into the space outside of the sac of fluid around your spinal cord. ESI is used only when your pain has not improved with medicines, physical therapy, or other nonsurgical treatments.
Joints (Knee, Hip, & Shoulder)
Cortisone is injected into the joint space which is meant to help reduce inflammation and/or swelling of the tissue surrounding the joint space. This may also help reduce pain in the area.
Baker’s Cyst
Cortisone in injected into the knee to reduce inflammation. This may relieve the pain, but it does not always prevent the recurrence of the cyst.
Tennis Elbow
Cortisone with local anesthetic are injected into the elbow to relieve the elbow pain.
Carpal Tunnel
Injection of steroids into the carpal tunnel can be an effective method of treatment. The steroid is used to reduce tendon swelling and ease pressure on the nerve.
Trigger Points/Myofascial Pain
Trigger points are areas of muscle spasm, which are usually located in the upper back and shoulder areas. This can be caused by myofascial pain syndrome or fibromyalgia. A mixture of cortisone and local anesthetic are injected directly into the trigger point to inactivate the trigger point and alleviate the pain.

Other Treatment

Joint Supplementation
Durolane is a treatment to help relieve pain associated with osteoarthritis in specific small and large joints. For more information on Durolane please visit http://durolane.care
Botox for Migraines
Botox will work for migraines if the migraine is due to muscle tension. Botox works by blocking the release of certain brain chemicals including acetylcholine and by blocking the movement of certain nerves and muscles. It is not completely known how Botox reduces headache pain and stiffness. A potential reason might be that Botox blocks nerves that send pain messages to the brain and relaxes muscles so they are less sensitive to pain.

*Most consultations are covered by MSP. However, if treatment is required, the medication is not covered by MSP can be purchased in our office or a pharmacy.
